Hard work
Big hearts
Great food

30 finished quilts!!!!

These quilts will stay in the Omaha/Council Bluffs community.  They will go to Project Linus, Open Door Mission, Mercy Hospital (Council Bluffs) and Children's Square.

You can check out more photos on our FaceBook page.

Quilt Marathon Final Reminder

This is the week of the Quilt Marathon - sponsored by Quilts from the Bluffs.  I wanted to get a final reminder out to everyone that might be interested in attending.

Two days from now we will be sitting at the church starting to grow a pile of finished quilts...marathon style!!!  I am so excited to spend two days with my favorite quilting peeps - those I know and those I will get to meet this weekend.

  • Where:  First Christian Church, Council Bluffs (Hwy 92) - Room C4 (lower East level)
  • When:   Friday, January 23 5:00-9:00 and Saturday, January 24 9:00-5:00
  • Bring:    Your sewing machine

You may also want to bring a pillow to sit on for the long day, a small light for your work area if needed, a walking foot to make the quilting easier, loaded bobbins...

We will have dinner Friday night (walking tacos) and Saturday we will have Chili for lunch.  Water and coffee are supplied.  If you want other drinks, bring them.  Bring a snack to share if you want. We do have a refrigerator available for our use if you need it.

You can keep your machine set up from Friday night until Saturday.  We have people coming in to clean up at 5:00 Saturday so we will not need to stay around to clean up (for a change.)  We deserve this after a full weekend of quilting!!  :-)

If you are not a member of the Quilt Like U Mean It! Facebook page and would like to be, let me know and I will get you added.  This is where we will be posting and sharing pictures of the weekend so you don't want to miss out.   Please take lots of pictures if you are there.  If you need help getting them uploaded, let me know.

Let me know if you have any questions.  See you Friday.

String Quilts for Children's Square (Council Bluffs)

We are still making string quilts and I wanted to re-post the requirements for those that are interested in helping us.  We do not expect you to make an entire quilt...just a few blocks would be great!

Information on making string blocks can be found here.

String Block Tutorial

These quilts will be twin-size and will be given to Children's Square to be used on the resident's beds.  This may be one of the only bright spots in their room.  All quilts get to stay with the children even after they leave the facility.

If you have any questions about making these string blocks, please send an email to

January 2015

It is a new year and we have new challenges and adventures ahead of us.  I am so excited to see what we will accomplish this year.

Last year we delivered 401 quilts...that's 27 more than in 2013.  This year we are adding Open Door Mission to our list of recipients and we are really wanting to push our total number of quilts to around 500 to meet our goal of at least 100 quilts for Open Door MissionCan we do this?

Quilts from the Bluffs meets monthly at First Christian Church on the 2nd Saturday.  We also sponsor two sessions each month at Cut Up & Quilt quilt shop we call "Charmed for Charity".  This year we are also holding a Quilt Marathon January 23-24 to try to push our boundaries a bit and see how many quilts we can make in a two-day period.  We also accept donated quilts you make on your own and these can be dropped of at Cut Up & Quilt. Please help spread the word to anyone you may know that has a heart for charity quilting!

January Quilt Day
We will be meeting this Saturday from 9:30-3:30 at First Christian Church, Council Bluffs.  We will be changing rooms this month and will meet in room C3 (next door to the room we have been meeting in.)  We have had some difficulties with the set up and clean up with our current room now that they are using in for preschool Sunday School.

We will be working in teams to create four "Scrap Vomit" quilts.  These are twin-size and will be great quilts for Children's Square.  I will also have some kits to make twin-size quilts using 10" squares for those that prefer to work with bigger pieces.

Quilt Marathon
As mentioned above, we will be holding our first Quilt Marathon.  Tell all your quilting friends!  I am hoping for a big turn out.

Group T-Shirts
For those that ordered t-shirts, I will have them on Saturday.  If you haven't paid for yours, please have your payment with you.  If you won't be at quilt day, let me know and we can make other arrangements for delivery.

Charmed for Charity
We will continue our Charmed for Charity groups this year at Cut Up & Quilt quilt shop.  They will continue to meet on the first Thursday for the evening session (6:00-8:00) and the third Wednesday for the afternoon session (1:00-3:00).

UFO Challenge
We will hold our UFO Challenge for the second year.  This is an individual challenge to finish a list you put together for yourself.  If you would like to participate and have not sent me your list of projects, you still have time to get your list in to me.  I believe we have 8 so far in the challenge.  Send your list to

We are off to a great year!  Hope to see everyone at quilt day Saturday!
