Quilt Day Reminder April 12, 2014

Quilts from the Bluffs will be meeting this Saturday, April 12, at First Christian Church (Council Bluffs) from 10:00-3:00 in room C1.  If you have never been to a quilt day before, the room is on the lower level.  It is easiest to come in the NorthEast door at the back of the church.  Parking is available there, too.  Follow the signs.

This month we will begin our journey with 10" squares and some easy quilts that can be made from them.  First up will be the Easy 10-minute Block!!!  Watch the YouTube video at the link below to understand what this block is all about.  And then come Saturday and play!!  I think it will be a fun quilt to make.

If there is anything specific you need me to bring for a quilt you are working on, please let me know so I can be sure I have what you need.  Otherwise, I will only bring what we will need for the new quilts we are starting.

Quilt Retreat 2014

I know you are all anxious for our annual quilt retreat.  We will be accepting registrations starting at our next Quilt day in May.  This year's theme will the Quilt Addiction!  We should have a lot of fun with that.  The dates are September 25-28 at the Camp of the Good Shephard so mark your calendar now and be ready to turn in your registration with a minimum deposit of $25 to hold your spot.  There will be a limit of 30 for this retreat.

Charmed for Charity

Our Charmed for Charity groups that meets at Cut Up & Quilt continue to be a success.  We have lots of kits made up and we need to get these into the hands of quilters to finish.  These are great quilts to work on when you just want to do something quick and easy.  Kits will be available to pick up at quilt day or during the Charmed for Charity sessions.  You don't have to stay to quilt.  Just come by and pick up a kit or two.

Evening group meets on the 1st Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00.
Day group meets on the 3rd Wednesday from 1:00 - 3:00.

Bluffs Quiltfest 2014

I wanted to pass on this information for those who would like to participate.  If you would like more information, contact Jean Kritenbrink at quiltinjeanie@yahoo.com.

I wanted to let you know the theme so you could pass the word to your friends and sewing group as well as look at what you have that you might want to show.

The theme this year is modern, with art quilts included. As you know, the Modern genre is broad, so anything using traditional blocks in a modern way, use of brighter prints, solids, batiks, negative space used for quilting design, innovative piecing. NOreproduction prints. The quilts must be finished.

We chose a later date...Sat. Oct. 11. It will be in Community Hall like last year. We have no other details yet, except the format will be similar to last year with 2 speakers/trunk shows and several demos going on. If you know anyone that could do a presentation about an aspect of modern quilting, or a trunk show of modern designs, please let me know.

Happy quilting!

Looking forward to quilting with you this Saturday!!
