February Quilt Day

I am excited to meet with everyone this Saturday, February 8, for our monthly quilt day.  We meet at First Christian Church in Council Bluffs (Hwy 92) in room C1 from 10:00 - 3:00.  If you have never been to a quilt day, it is easier to use the lower level NE door at the back of the church and follow the signs.  New people are always welcome so grab a friend and join us!

This month we will be working on rag quilts and continue working on the 1, 2, 3 quilts that were started last month.  If you have a walking foot, bring it for the rag quilts.  It is easier to hold the three layers together.  Also, if you have rag quilt scissors, bring them.  I have a couple pairs to share.  We will be making smaller rag quilts for Project Linus that will use 30 blocks and lap size quilts for the hospital that use 42 blocks.  They go together very quickly and the great thing is they do not need to be quilted when they are done!!

Bring a snack to share and/or a lunch for yourself.  Bring your sewing machine and basic supplies (scissors, pins, etc.)  We do have some cutting mats, rulers and cutters to share.

Thank you for your friendship and support over that past few months as we cared for my mom as she battled cancer.  She passed away on January 10 and I know she is in a much better place.  I also know she will miss quilting with us as she really enjoyed coming up here from Kansas City for quilt days when they could squeeze it in their schedule.  I taught her to make rag quilts several years ago and she quickly became the queen of rag quilts.  She kept saying she wasn't going to make another one but then someone else would request one from her and she was off creating a new one.  I would hate to count the number of rag quilts she made.  Some of the blocks I will be bringing Saturday came from her stash.  So I would like to dedicate February's quilt day to my mom.  I know she will be with us in spirit and smiling down on us as we work.

Pattern for the rag quilt is available here.

This picture of my mom, Ida Snyder, was taken at the January 2013 quilt day...making rag quilts!  You will be missed, mom!

Charmed for Charity

We had our first session of C4C on January 15 at Cut Up and Quilt.  Ten people showed up and several quilts were started and lots of kits put together.  I will have kits available Saturday for anyone that would like to bring one home.

The evening C4C session will kick off this Thursday, February 6, at the quilt shop from 6:00-8:00.  Join us to sew, cut or put together quilt kits.  If you don't have time to stay, come by and pick up a kit or two to work on at home.  Finished quilts can be returned to the quilt shop or to our monthly quilt days.

Project Linus

Project Linus will be holding their bi-annual blanket making day on March 1.  If you have any kid-friendly quilts ready to go, please bring them to quilt day.  I will also be picking up quilts at Cut Up and Quilt February 28 so you can drop off quilts there, too.

Looking forward to being together this Saturday!!
