We will be meeting until 3:00 instead of 4:00 for the warmer months. We understand there are a lot of things pulling on our attention especially when the weather is nicer and we want to respect that. We will move back to 4:00 in October.
All fabric, patterns, batting and thread is supplied. Bring your sewing machine and basic supplies. We have mats, rulers and cutters you can use as well. Grab a friend and come quilt with us!
Red, White & Blue
This quarter's theme is Red, White and Blue. We had a lot of fun with the Jelly Roll Race quilt last month and we still have some of those to finish up this month. We will also be starting some split rail fence quilts. This is an easy, traditional quilt pattern and may be a good quilt to do in pairs if you want to work with a friend.
I Spy Quilts
Looking forward to July, we will be making I Spy Disappearing 9-Patch quilts. These require 4" squares with prints that can be identified such as birds, balls, dogs, stars, and other novelty items. If you have scraps in your stash that could be used for this, start cutting your 4" squares and bring them to quilt day sometime between now and July. The more variety the better. Thanks!!
This year's quilt retreat theme is "Wanda Wonky and the Quilt Factory". We plan to have some fun with that! Dates for the retreat is September 26-29 and will be held at The Camp of the Good Shepherd in Louisville, NE. This will be our 6th retreat and I know many are looking forward to it. I am attaching the registration form for this year's quilt retreat. You can begin turning in your forms with at least $25 to hold your spot. Full payment will need to be made by the first of August. If you have any questions about the retreat, send me an email or talk with me at quilt day. It is always a LOT of fun!
Children's Square Twin-Size String Quilts
Quilts from the Bluffs has started a campaign to collect 6 1/2" and 12 1/2" string quilt blocks. These will be put together into 72x84 quilts for the beds at Children's Square in Council Bluffs. This has been a request of theirs for a couple years and I have not been able to accommodate the request. I think if we work together, we can get the quilts they need. You can send the blocks to my home address or drop them off at the monthly quilt days. We will continue this effort through 2013 and if it is successful, we may just keep it going long-term.
Thank you to everyone who has donated blocks so far. I love seeing the variety of blocks coming in. I will be posting pictures as we get the quilts finished.
Check out our blog for more information and directions.
You can mail your blocks to my house (address below), drop them off at one of our monthly quilt days, or drop them off in the Project Linus trunk at Cut Up and Quilt quilt shop in Council Bluffs.
