Another String Quilt Top

It is so exciting to see all the variety of blocks being donated.  We started out with string blocks but this last quilt included blocks that resembled more of a crazy quilt block with some using leftover blocks from other quilts and adding scraps to make the block big enough.

We will accept ANY type of scrap block for these quilts.  We only ask that they measure 12 1/2" or 6 1/2" so they will go together smoothly.

Here is the latest quilt top.

Quilts for Oklahoma

As you know, Moore, Oklahoma was hit very hard by a tornado this week.  Because we care and because the way we show we care is by quilting, we are in the process of gathering quilts to send to Oklahoma with our prayers of comfort and a quick recovery.

If you would like to donate a quilt and are in the Council Bluffs area, I am collecting them and will ship them to Ellen Medlock Studio Store in Tulsa, OK.  Ellen will get them into the right hands.

Please send me an email if you can help and we can discuss the details...qftbluffs@gmail.com

Mercy Hospital Delivery

Sunny and 82 today...a perfect day to get out and make a quilt delivery.  I brought 10 quilts to Mercy Hospital today.  I met the chaplain there and she presented Quilts from the Bluffs with two big bags of new fabric!  How awesome is that!!!

She wanted everyone in the group that gives their time and energy to this mission to know how much it means to those who receive the quilts and wants to continue to encourage us in what we are doing.  So, quilters...be encouraged and keep up the good work we have started.

May, 2013 Quilt Day for Quilts from the Bluffs

I hope you are able to enjoy your Spring despite the not-so-Spring weather!  Come out and quilt with us this Saturday to brighten up your month!  We will meet Saturday, May 11, at First Christian Church in Council Bluffs on the lower level.  Entering from the Northeast door in the back is the most direct route.

We will be meeting until 3:00 instead of 4:00 for the warmer months. We understand there are a lot of things pulling on our attention especially when the weather is nicer and we want to respect that. We will move back to 4:00 in October.
All fabric, patterns, batting and thread is supplied.  Bring your sewing machine and basic supplies.  We have mats, rulers and cutters you can use as well.   Grab a friend and come quilt with us!

Red, White & Blue
This quarter's theme is Red, White and Blue. We had a lot of fun with the Jelly Roll Race quilt last month and we still have some of those to finish up this month. We will also be starting some split rail fence quilts. This is an easy, traditional quilt pattern and may be a good quilt to do in pairs if you want to work with a friend.

I Spy Quilts
Looking forward to July, we will be making I Spy Disappearing 9-Patch quilts. These require 4" squares with prints that can be identified such as birds, balls, dogs, stars, and other novelty items. If you have scraps in your stash that could be used for this, start cutting your 4" squares and bring them to quilt day sometime between now and July. The more variety the better. Thanks!!

Quilt Retreat
This year's quilt retreat theme is "Wanda Wonky and the Quilt Factory". We plan to have some fun with that! Dates for the retreat is September 26-29 and will be held at The Camp of the Good Shepherd in Louisville, NE. This will be our 6th retreat and I know many are looking forward to it. I am attaching the registration form for this year's quilt retreat. You can begin turning in your forms with at least $25 to hold your spot. Full payment will need to be made by the first of August. If you have any questions about the retreat, send me an email or talk with me at quilt day. It is always a LOT of fun!

Children's Square Twin-Size String Quilts
Quilts from the Bluffs has started a campaign to collect 6 1/2" and 12 1/2" string quilt blocks. These will be put together into 72x84 quilts for the beds at Children's Square in Council Bluffs. This has been a request of theirs for a couple years and I have not been able to accommodate the request. I think if we work together, we can get the quilts they need. You can send the blocks to my home address or drop them off at the monthly quilt days. We will continue this effort through 2013 and if it is successful, we may just keep it going long-term.

Thank you to everyone who has donated blocks so far. I love seeing the variety of blocks coming in. I will be posting pictures as we get the quilts finished.

Check out our blog for more information and directions.

You can mail your blocks to my house (address below), drop them off at one of our monthly quilt days, or drop them off in the Project Linus trunk at Cut Up and Quilt quilt shop in Council Bluffs.

My address:
3118 Gold Rush Road
Council Bluffs, IA 51501

Looking forward to quilting with you on Saturday!
