Sandy Quilt Block Drive

Quilting Gallery is sponsoring a quilt block drive if you do not want to make an entire quilt.  These quilts will also be given to the effort initiated by eQuilter in the previous post

Update::
Quilts from the block drive event will be donated to the Bumble Beans Basics group that quilting friend Victoria Findlay Wolfe organizes. These folks are in New York and able to get the quilts delivered immediately. The need is desperate and if you have quilts already done, they would be most grateful to get them now. Quilts from this block drive can be sent over the next several months.

They do not have the tutorial out yet but you can watch their site or I will post it on this blog when I hear more.  This is a picture of the type of quilt they are asking for.

I have registered our group as a Team Leader to put together 3 quilts from blocks others make.

You may not be able to do everything needed to help
but you can do something!

Hurricane Sandy Quilt Relief Drive

eQuilter is coordinating a quilt relief effort for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.  I would like to send some twin size quilts to them from Quilts from the Bluffs.  If anyone would like to help with this or has ideas on how we can get some quilts together for them, please comment or contact me at qftbluffs@gmail.com.

A blurb from the eQuilter Quilt Relief site:

It has been my experience with this type of disaster, that bed-sized quilts are what is most needed.

We will accept lap-sized quilts and crib quilts, but we really encourage you to send at least twin or full sized quilts for those who have lost everything. We want to keep these people WARM for the winter, so if you can send it soon that is best, but we will continue this project for many months.

We will not be accepting afghans, pillowcases, or other non-quilt items. We want to stay focused on our goal of collecting and distributing 5000 quilts.

Let's get to quilting!!

November, 2012, Quilt Day Reminder

November quilt day will be this Saturday, November 10.  We meet from 10:00 - 4:00 in room C1 on the lower level east wing.  It is easier to park around back and enter through the lower Northeast doors.  Bring your sewing machine and basic supplies.  All fabric, thread, patterns are supplied.  Everyone is welcome regardless of your skill level. Come and have fun and make some new friends!  We also enjoy seeing what you have been working on.  Bring your show n tell to share with the group.

We are working on the Arkansas Cross Road Scrap quilt. I am hoping to see some finished quilts this month.  If you are planning on being at quilt day and you do not already have a quilt in progress, you may want to see if there is someone you can help on theirs.  This is a big quilt and I think lends itself to team quilting!  :-)  I will also have quilts ready to finish if you would like to help with that.

If you would like a free pattern, visit our blog and look under the Links tab.

Project Linus Drop Site

We are going to be moving the Project Linus Drop Site to the new quilt shop,

303 McKenzie Avenue
Council Bluffs, Iowa

If you have any questions about this let me know.  We think it will be more inviting to bring in your blankets and quilts to a quilt shop and I would encourage you to do that.  Of course, you can always bring them to the Quilts from the Bluffs quilt day.

Quilts of Valor Quilt Group
We will be starting a group to make Quilts of Valor quilts in January.  We are partnering with the Iowa 4H and are looking for quilters who are willing to mentor one 4H youth to create a quilt to give to a military veteran or active duty personnel.  Our first session will be held on January 26 from 10:00-4:00.  If you would like to participate, please send me an email at qftbluffs@gmail.com with your name, email address and phone number.  I will have more information soon.

Looking forward to quilting with you on Saturday!

Jeanine
