Thank You Note

I received a thank you card from Pastoral Care at Mercy Hospital I want to share with you:

Thank you and each person of "Quilts from the Bluffs" for the beautiful, beautiful quilts.  What a meaningful ministry each of you have to our patients and their families at end of life.  This last month a dear woman and her family received one of your quilts as they made their decision for comfort care for the patient. The family was so moved that at their memorial service several days later they placed the quilt around her picture for the service. To them it meant that she was surrounded by love and the prayers of each of you. Thank you so very muchserving our savior in this way. May God continue to bless you all and your ministry for Him.

Keep it up!  Your efforts are reaching and comforting so many.

Boys Town Quilts

Several of us went to the Missouri Valley Quilt Guild meeting last night and heard a neat program on Boys Town.  It was fun to hear some of the history behind Boys Town and its humble beginnings.  Father Flanagan's mom and sister started a "Mother's Guild" early on to sew clothes and make quilts for the cot-like beds.  This effort was stopped due to WWI but recently has begun again.  Some of the reproduction quilts were shown at the guild meeting.  These quilts were made by the Omaha quilt guild prior to the new Mother's Guild being formed.

The pictures are not that great but wanted to share them with you.  These quilts are on the beds in a room that is set up as a reproduction of the way Boys Town was around the 1930's.  There are holiday quilts that are displayed Nov-Dec and everyday quilts for the rest of the year.

October Quilt Day Reminder

I wanted to get this reminder out before Saturday to make sure everyone knew we are NOT meeting on October 13.  We had to move our quilt day to October 20 due to the Harvest of Talents activities at the church on Saturday.  If you are looking for something to do, stop by First Christian Church and shop at their craft fair, enjoy a chili lunch and stay for the auction.  Sale starts at 8:00am - noon.  Auction starts at 1:00.

But we WILL be meeting next week so mark your calendars.  We meet from 10:00 - 4:00 in room C1 on the lower level east wing.  It is easier to park around back and enter through the lower NorthEast doors.  Bring your sewing machine and basic supplies.  All fabric, thread, patterns are supplied.

We are working on the Arkansas Cross Road Scrap quilt.  It has been very popular and I can't wait to see the finished quilts.  If you would like a free pattern, visit our blog and look under the Links tab.

6th Anniversary
This month marks our 6th anniversary as a quilt group.  In that time, we have delivered almost 1,500 quilts to the Council Bluffs/Omaha community.  I am so excited to meet new quilters as they join our group and the friendships that have resulted.  I think we are a unique group and I want to thank everyone for sharing the vision I have had for what we are and can be.  I look forward to many more years of stitching with you!!

Quilt Deliveries
We have delivered 7 quilts to Gabrielle's Corner and 32 quilts to Mercy Hospital.  Our total deliveries YTD are 239.

Check out the pictures of the quilts we have delivered on our blog

Cut Up and Quilt

Have you been voting for our new favorite quilt shop, Cut Up and Quilt, on Facebook.  They are in a contest to win $5,000 to help with their new business.  They have to make the top five and right now they are neck and neck with one other business fighting for 5th place.  They could really use your help.  If you have a facebook account, please consider going to the contest site and voting for them.  I would really like to support our local quilt shop and show them how much support the really have.

After you vote, leave a comment and you will be in a weekly drawing for nice prizes.  This week is a Halloween quilt kit!!  Get on and VOTE!!!

Project Linus Drop Site

We are going to be moving the Project Linus Drop Site to the new quilt shop,

Cut Up and Quilt.
303 McKenzie Avenue
Council Bluffs, Iowa

If you have any questions about this let me know.  We think it will be more inviting to bring in your blankets and quilts to a quilt shop and I would encourage you to do that.  Of course, you can always bring them to the Quilts from the Bluffs quilt day.

Retreat FollowUp

We had an awesome retreat this year.  If you haven't seen the pictures, please go to our FaceBook page or our BLOG.  Weather was perfect, food wonderful, friendships fabulous!!  I know it was my most productive retreat yet!!

Next year's retreat is scheduled for September 26-29, 2013.  https://www.facebook.com/events/180528062071804/

Quilts of Valor Quilt Group
We will be starting a group to make Quilts of Valor quilts in January.  We are partnering with the Iowa 4H and are looking for quilters who are willing to mentor one 4H youth to create a quilt to give to a military veteran or active duty personnel.  Our first session will be held on January 26 from 10:00-4:00.  If you would like to participate, please send me an email at qftbluffs@gmail.com with your name, email address and phone number.  I will have more information soon.

I think that is all the news I need to relay to you this month.  I look forward to seeing everyone on October 20.  If you have any questions about this group, please email me!!
