Pot Luck Lunch:
We will take a break around noon to have a sit down meal together. Please bring a dish to share with the group. Drinks will be provided as well as the plates, cups and plastic ware.
Sandy Quilt Relief Effort
Thank you to everyone who has helped make quilts to send to the East Coast to be given to those most in need after Hurricane Sandy. We have sent 11 so far and are working to complete 9 more to send out soon. The effort with equilter.com will be going on for a couple more months so I would encourage others to participate in this if you have the time.
Quilts of Valor Group
We will be starting a Quilts of Valor group in January. The first scheduled meeting is set for January 26 at First Christian Church (same room we quilt in). We will be working with the Iowa 4H and my goal is to pair up a quilter with a youth to help them make a quilt. If you are interested in helping or know others that may be interested, this group is open to anyone. I will be sending out more specific information in January. Rachel Summy is working with the 4H group and co-leading this group with me.
There will be one quilt pattern, a rail fence, we will be working on and all the fabric and instructions will be provided. We will recruit longarm quilters to do the quilting. If you have any questions or want more information, please send an email to email@example.com.
Project Linus Drop Off Site
We have moved the Council Bluffs Project Linus Drop Off Site to Cut Up and Quilt quilt shop. Please help to spread the word for those who make blankets, afghans or quilts for charity.
Quilts for 2013
Starting in January, we will be working on flannel baby quilts for three months. My plan is to have kits made up with the fabric for the top, the batting, and the backing/binding included. My hope is to give you everything you need to make the quilt from start to finish. If you do not know how to do the quilting or the binding, this is a great opportunity to work with others to learn these skills. All of these quilts are around 40" square or smaller so they are all very easy to quilt on a domestic machine. I have also purchased a bolt of minkee to be used as backing on some of the quilts. These quilts will be going to NICU at Children's Hospital and to Gabrielle's Corner. I am excited to see how many of these we can produce. Quilts are always needed for the NICU because they cannot accept fleece blankets there.
See you Saturday!!
