I love May and and the wonderful trees, grass, flowers that come with it. A new beginning. It makes me want to quilt (ok everything makes me want to quilt) but that's what we will be doing this Saturday, May 12, at First Christian Church in Council Bluffs. We will be there between the hours of 10:00 and 4:00 so join us any time during that timeframe. We would love to have you there!
We are continuing with our string quilts so we can bring them to the FINISH line. This month we will concentrate on finishing the tops and then sandwiching, quilting and binding them. If you do not know how to do these steps, you will definitely want to be here so you can learn. We will walk you through basting a quilt sandwich, different options for quilting including tying a quilt and then show you how to make the binding and a couple options for attaching it. Check out our FaceBook page for links to some good tutorials on this subject.
Need help with clean up
My husband usually comes up and cleans up our room but will be working on Saturday. Can I get a committment from someone else's husband for Saturday? The hardest part is stacking the tables on the cart and moving the cart to where it is stored. Please email me if you can help. THANKS!!
We delivered 10 quilts to Children's Square and donated 3 quilts to the Woman of Worth event for HopeNet.
I got an email from Ginny DeBates (Project Linus Coordinator). She received a concerned email from a hospital who receives quilts. She said that two seperate quilts were found with pins in them! This could have been bad if we actually harmed someone instead of comforted. Please give your finished quilts a very good quality check before turning them in. We are not in such a hurry that we can't take a few minutes to snip threads check for pins and anything else that makes our quilts less than standard. I am impressed with the quality of our quilts and want to continue to produce the best quilts we possibly can. Thanks for your help in this matter!!
And as a reminder, First Christian Church and Quilts from the Bluffs is now a Project Linus drop off site. If you would like to help spread the word, I have attached a flyer that you can distribute to others.
5th Annual Quilt Retreat is Coming!
This year's quilt retreat theme is UFO's and will be help September 20-23. Our focus is on helping you to finish up a project you have already started. Don't have any UFO's? (And you call yourself a quilter? LOL) Maybe you can ask a friend if she needs help? Or get busy on starting a project before the retreat so you can finish it there. Whatever you want to work on (and it is absolutely up to you what you want to bring to work on), we are now accepting registrations. Attached is the form you can fill out and mail in or bring to quilt day. A minimum of $25 is required with the balance due by August 11.
Quilting: The Tradition Continues
Quilts from the Bluffs has been working with the Bluffs Art Council and other quilters in the area to put on a quilt show on June 10 at The Center in Council Bluffs. We will need a few people that can help assist at a table where attendees can make a 4-patch block that will be used to make a Community Quilt to donate. We may need others to help with the sign in table, refreshments and clean up. Let me know if you would like to help.
We hope you will come to the show on Sunday. Doors open at 1:00 and the program will begin at 1:30. There will be a panel discussion with a few different takes on quilting, a bed turning to demonstrate different quilts and their stories, a quilt display and more. You don't want to miss it.
Quilts from the Bluffs Flyer
I have attached a flyer that explains what our group is all about. Please feel free to print it off and hand it out to your friends and quilt acquaintances.
If you would like one of the mentioned attachments, please send an email to email@example.com.
