First Delivery to Children's Square and April Quilt Day

We are finally getting our first quilt donation ready to go to Children's Square in Council Bluffs, IA.

We also had a great turn out for our quilt day on Saturday.  Our final count was 21 with three new quilters joining  us.  We continued making string quilts and had lots of fun in the process.

Jesse made the trip up from Kansas City and got to stay an extra day to wait out the tornados.

Gail wasn't thrilled with the camera but always has a great smile.

April Quilt Day Reminder - Quilts from the Bluffs

Happy Easter!  Hope you are having a great weekend.

Next Saturday we will be meeting at First Christian Church in Room C1 (10:00 - 4:00).  We are going to continue making string quilts.  This was a lot of fun last month and I am looking forward to seeing these quilts get to the finish line!  I will have more 2 1/2" strips for the Large String Blocks and I will also bring a bucket of miscellaneous strings and smaller foundation squares for a different type of string quilt.  There is no limit to what you can do with this technique!

Quilting: The Tradition Continues

The Bluffs Art Council and Quilts from the Bluffs will be putting on a quilt show on June 10 at The Centre in Council Bluffs.  We are looking for people who would like to help with the planning or to just be there as a volunteer to help on the day of the quilt show.  Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to participate.

We are also looking for quilts to display.  We are looking for a variety of that you really like, one you inherited from a relative, one with a special story.  Each quilt on display will have a placard that will tell a little about the quilt.  We also plan on having some sort of trunk show with selected quilts.  This is where we can give a little more background to quilts that have a story to tell.

We plan to display a collection of quilts we have made in our group for a week so our quilt deliveries will be a little light until after the show.  The show is a great opportunity to promote our quilt ministry and let people know what we do for the community.  Mark your calendars and spread the word.

New Brochure - Quilts from the Bluffs

I have created a brochure to promote the quilt ministry.  These will be available to those coming to the quilt show in June.  I attached the brochure for your use as well.  Sometimes it is hard to communicate what we do or who we are.  I hope this will help you explain it to your quilting friends!

Harvest of Talents

Harvest of Talents craft fair will be held on October 13, 2012.  If you would like to participate, bring your handmade items and I will make sure they get into the fair.  Items can be anything handmade and do not need to be limited to quilt items.  There will be some working sessions for specific crafts scheduled before then as well if you would like to participate.  All proceeds from the fair will go to a specific mission

Quilt Retreat

This year's retreat will be held September 20-23 at The Camp of the Good Shepherd in Louisville, NE.  This year's theme is UFO's.  Get the date on your calendar now.  We anticipate the cost to be the same as it has been for the base retreat ($80 for Friday-Sunday and $100 for Thursday-Sunday).  For a private room, it will be $100 for 2 nights/ $130 for 3 nights.  For a semi-private room (2-3 per room), it will be $90 for 2 nights/$115 for 3 nights.  The private/semi-private rooms are not guaranteed but we will work with the camp to accommodate everyone as best we can.

Registration forms will be sent out with May's quilt reminder.

Quilts from the Bluffs Facebook Page

Have you LIKED our FaceBook page yet?  If not, go to and help us get our likes up to 100!!  We are currently at 83.  I post events, pictures and links that I think the group would be interested.  It is also a great place for you to share your ideas and questions and get some discussions going with fellow quilters.

Project Linus Drop-Off Site
Quilts from the Bluffs will host a Project Linus drop off site at First Christian Church.  Please help spread the word on this to blanketeers you may know that do not come to the group quilt days.  Quilts/Blankets can be dropped of on the 2nd Saturday quilt days or during the week during church office hours.  The office staff will show those dropping off quilts where we are collecting them.  Members of Quilts from the Bluffs will be picking them up throughout the month as needed and get them delivered to the proper places.

I have attached a flyer that you can print and pass out to your contacts.

Thanks for all you do!!!  Looking forward to quilting with you on Saturday.
