Strings, strings, strings...

We had so much fun doing string quilts that we are going to continue them next month at our April quilt day (April 14, 2012).

If you want to be inspired before quilt day, check out the link to Heart String Project blog and their website.

I have some basic instructions available at the links below if you would like to download them.

We had a wonderful quilt day Saturday.  It was a lot of fun putting together a variety of string quilts.  We will continue these next month and hopefully get some to the finish line.  We had five new members and lots of good food (yummy monkey bread, Sondra!)

Our count for the month as of March 10, 2012 is:

March Quilt Day Reminder

It is National Quilt Month and one way we can celebrate quilting is to come together with other quilters.  Please join us this Saturday, March 10, at First Christian Church in Council Bluffs.  We meet between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.  You are welcome to come anytime within that time range.  Bring a snack to share and a lunch if you are staying all day.  Also, bring you sewing machine and basic supplies.  All fabric, patterns and thread are supplied.

This month we will be making large string quilts.  We are using a 12 1/2" foundation square and 2 1/2" strips.  These should go pretty fast.  If you have never done a string quilt, this is your chance to learn.  It is a great way to use up lots of scrap and make a beautiful quilt in the process.  I have attached a picture of a quilt I have started to give you an idea of what we are doing.

I will also bring several quilts that need to be finished.  You can work on them during quilt day or take home to finish if you are willing.  We are starting to put a dent in our backlog thanks to your dedicated efforts.

March 2, 2012 was the Project Linus Make-A-Blanket Day in Omaha.  Check out our Quilts from the Bluffs blog to see pictures from the event.  Our group donated 61 quilts.

Our deliveries in March will concentrate on Children's Square and Mercy Hospital Critical Care.

Quilt Like U Mean It! T-Shirts

We have added several new members to our group in the last few months.  I will be bringing our group t-shirts on Saturday if you would like to purchase one.  I have a limited number available and it will be on a first-come basis.  The cost is $15.  If I do not have the size you need, we will be putting in another order for t-shirts this summer.

Harvest of Talents

Harvest of Talents craft fair will be held on October 13, 2012.  If you would like to participate, bring your handmade items and I will make sure they get into the fair.  Items can be anything handmade and do not need to be limited to quilt items.  There will be some working sessions for specific crafts scheduled before then as well if you would like to participate.  All proceeds from the fair will go to a specific mission

Quilt Retreat Teaser

This year's retreat will be held September 20-23 at The Camp of the Good Shepherd in Louisville, NE.  This year's theme is UFO's.  Get the date on your calendar now.  We anticipate the cost to be the same as it has been for the base retreat ($80 for Friday-Sunday and $100 for Thursday-Sunday).  Private rooms will be an additional cost and I will let you know the details soon.  Registration for the retreat won't officially start until our May quilt day.

Project Linus Drop-Off Site
Quilts from the Bluffs will host a Project Linus drop off site at First Christian Church.  Please help spread the word on this to blanketeers you may know that do not come to the group quilt days.  Quilts/Blankets can be dropped of on the 2nd Saturday quilt days or during the week during church office hours.  The office staff will show those dropping off quilts where we are collecting them.  Members of Quilts from the Bluffs will be picking them up throughout the month as needed and get them delivered to the proper places.

Happy National Quilt Month!  See you on Saturday.

More Project Linus Quilts

Here are a few more pictures of the quilts we delivered.  We had 61 quilts total donated today from the group.

Project Linus Omaha - Make-A-Blanket Day

Four of us spent the morning with Project Linus at their annual Make-A-Blanket Day.  We worked on quilt tops, sewed on labels and "shopped" for fabric at the donation table.  We were surrounded with a crowd of excited children, teenagers, families, individuals that just wanted to give a little back to someone else.  We also met several people that came just to thank us for what we do because they had been given a quilt/blanket by Project Linus.  It was a fun morning...(even though I didn't win the sewing machine!)

Here are some pictures from the day.

Kathe and Peggy tying a quilt.

Stacking blankets in groups and ready for pickup/delivery.

And more labels...
